Frequently asked questions about concrete structures
What? How? Where?
A concrete structure is the system that gives a building its shape, stability and load-bearing capacity. It can include foundations, walls, columns and slabs, and is designed to support loads and transfer them safely to the ground. Its main purpose is to ensure the building remains safe, resistant and structurally sound throughout its entire lifespan.
The process begins with preparing the work area and installing the elements that define the shape of the structural component. The steel reinforcement specified in the project is then placed, and the concrete supply is organised. The execution follows a planned sequence that ensures a continuous, stable and cohesive structure, always under technical supervision.
The price is determined by the volume of concrete, the amount of steel reinforcement, the complexity of the formwork and the accessibility of the site. Technical requirements, the type of structure (foundations, slabs, walls or columns), the need for concrete pumping, the execution time and the coordination with other trades also play a role. Each project requires a specific calculation to ensure an accurate and reliable cost estimate.
The timeframe depends on the size of the element, the complexity of the design and the organisation of the project. Some components can be completed in just a few days, while others require additional preparation stages. What matters is following the planned schedule so that each phase progresses safely and in coordination with the rest of the construction works.
Some modifications may be possible, but they always require a technical review to confirm whether the change is compatible with the current stage of work and with the structural behaviour as a whole. If the adjustment is feasible, the workflow is replanned to ensure progress continues safely and without disruption.
Throughout the process, visible checks and measurements are carried out to confirm that dimensions, alignments and finishes match the design. In addition, the technical supervision team reviews the progress of each phase to ensure the structure meets all project specifications and performance requirements.
Work can move on to the next phases once the structure has reached the required level of stability. The project defines the estimated timelines for progressing safely, and the technical supervision team determines the right moment based on the type of element completed and the needs of the building. This ensures the construction continues in a safe and orderly manner.
Initial setting usually occurs within 24 to 48 hours, allowing for formwork removal or the continuation of complementary stages depending on the structural design. Significant strength is typically reached between 7 and 14 days, while full design strength —according to standards— is achieved at around 28 days. Factors such as humidity, temperature, cement type and additives can speed up or slow down this process.
